Humans need to brush and floss their teeth regularly to keep their teeth, tongue, and gums in good condition.  Research has recently shown a link between good oral health in humans and a lower risk of heart disease.  If good oral health can have such a profound affect on people, then it only makes sense to consider the impact it can have on man's best friend. The treats you give your pet are part of your dog's diet just like snacks are part of a person's diet.  As humans, we tend to want to overlook our snacking habits, so it can be easy to overlook the treats you give your dog.  This is not a good idea.  Carefully consider any and all items your dog will consume. Many of the treats and snacks you provide in your dog's diet can be just empty wasted calories.  Some treats, alternatively, provide excellent opportunity to improve oral health.  Greenies, rawhides, bones, and hard dog biscuits all help to keep tartar at bay.  The softer snacks, such as jerky treats, do not provide much relief from plaque.  The healthy treat, on occasion, will also prevent your dog from having bad breath.

Your dog's diet must be healthy to ensure excellent oral health.  Dry dog food is best whenever possible.  Don't forget to select treats for your pet that will enhance your dog's diet.  Consciously monitoring your dog's diet will positively influence your  best friend's oral health.

Let me first say that you need to read the whole book first. I know a lot of people that are excited to start and they are really dont read all the book. This is the only way that you are going to really the results that your body needs and want. I believe that is why a lot of people call the book a crock. Also please buy the companion book because it is great to take to the grocery store.

A friend of mine that has cancer daughter bought her this book. I am so fortunate that I picked up the book off her coffee table and flip through the pages. The best thing that has ever happen to me and my husband. It meant for us cleaning out our food pantry. I am a O and husband is a B blood type. If you do this change you need to have your family on board. Especially if their is different blood types in your home.
It is expensive at first, because you will have to give away or gradually stop using your avoid foods. We gave away a lot of stuff. My family started right away. I stopped coffee right away which if you know me I was a Starbucks addict. I still have a balance on my card which I will use for soymilk. I had already stop using splenda, boy after I stop their stock will go down(smile)
We are going in our third week and now that we have all our food in the pantry.
What I really like is I am never hungry. Before I started this blood type diet and I dont want to say diet because it is just a change of the way of eating. There is so much food to eat and I promise you will never be hungry. Before I started this process I felt 75% of myself. I am 50+ and now I can say I am 100% of energy in these short weeks. I have lost weight and I am going to start by exercising in a couple of days.

Buy and Read this book, I wish I would have known about this a long time a go.

I picked up Body for Life (B4L) after reading about the new P90X workout stuff. Some folks suggested following the program in B4L before even trying P90X. So I picked up the book and gave it a read through. I actually skipped a lot of it because a good portion of the book is testimonials and personal stories - stuff you really don't need. The core of the book - the stuff you actually want - is an easy read. Phillips outlines a decent fitness approach. The two key elements, IMO, are good nutrition and putting thought and planning into your workouts. You have to devise a way to monitor your progress and figure out how to increase the intensity through "progressive overload."

Phillips advocates the approach of eating several (in his book specifically six) small meals over the course of the day. Like any approach this is not foolproof. It'll work for some people and won't for others. Since he has his own line of supplements he naturally bases the diet plan around including shakes or bars from those products. This is one part where he's clearly trying to increase his return on the plan, rather than outlining other ideas for healthful snacks. But, you can at least get the idea from the book.

I was disappointed by his general workout plan. It's not that it's not a solid one - he has a good plan for outlining progress and has a fair number of exercises, but he doesn't include bodyweight exercises. He really misses out here because bodyweight exercises are a good way to work multiple muscle groups and increase fat burning. They're also a good way for people who are just starting to develop a fitness routine without investing in a lot of equipment. His exercises are good, but some are the usual fare of kickbacks, curls and such that develop "beach muscles" - that is, muscles that look good but aren't recruited a lot in daily living. For example, working up to chinups is more useful than doing curls for actual fitness versus simple aesthetics.

One pitfall is that he encourages readers to workout first thing in the morning before you eat, or later in the day after a few hours without food. This can really mess with your blood sugar and such and is not advised by most fitness professionals. It may make a difference in the results some experience, but use at your own risk. As always consult a doctor about new fitness programs and especially the idea of working out on an empty stomach.

Overall there isn't a lot in this book that you can't find online with a little research for free. That's not to say it's useless. For many people that don't know where to start in the fitness game this can be a good starting point that consolidates a lot of basic ideas into one place. It should be noted, however, that despite the numerous pictures in the dust jacket the results shown fall under the usual "results not typical" disclaimer. Most people are not going to get a body like that in 12 weeks without serious time investments and strict, strict diet.

You need this book as a guide to take to the grocery story to make sure you are getting the right foods as well as the foods that the recipes in the companion diet books call for. We have referred to it every time we shop to be sure we're doing it right. Today's food labeling makes it a challenge. The best advice in the book is to check the ingredients to see where the fats and carbs are really coming from - don't just rely on the numbers on the Nutrition Facts on the package label.

For instance, is avocado detrimental or beneficial? Because it's listed in both lists. Can't find the "beneficial listing?" It's in the Vegetables chapter. Perhaps it means that IF avocado WERE a vegetable, it would be beneficial. Heh.

On top of discrepancies within the book itself, there are discrepancies between the book & the database at the D'Adamo website (soba, oatmeal, cabbage to name a few).

The diet itself seems to work. So far I've lost 7 lbs in 6 weeks, still carb loading, still having midnight snacks, still not exercising. I'm about 30 lbs overweight. Well, 7 less now.

It would be nice to get those discrepancies ironed out, though, for the next time my mom makes corned beef. And our avocado tree outside is just about ready for harvest. Maybe if I pretend it's a vegetable?

Maybe this book has been helpful for some people, but not for me. He oversimplifies and says that the Zone diet (40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat) will basically cure every disease. I was not impressed.
